The RAS Library has undertaken various digitization projects to preserve its heritage and archival materials. Copies of the Journal of the North China Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society were digitzed and placed online via the Hathi Trust.
A more recent effort has been under way in 2024-2025 under the auspices of an agreement between RAS and Duke Kunshan University’s Humanities Research Center. Under the leadership of DKU Archivist Ryder Kouba, a DKU student William Tran has been digitizing the Tess Johnston archive, and the China Journal. A second student Elliot Aung, has been developing the back end of the library website, including particularly the open source Koha system on which the library software runs.
Project leaders will make a presentation about this project on April 25 as part of NYU Shanghai’s Symposium on Heritage in the Digital Age.
